Nordic Skiing

Blessed with hundreds of kilometers of trails both groomed and ungroomed and a long and consistent winter season residents and visitors a like enjoy an outstanding nordic skiing destination in the Trail / Rossland area.

Giving the alpine skiing crowd a run for it's money nordic skiing is extremely popular in Trail/Rossland and the outstanding facilities and clubs continue to grow its popularity. Turning out high level athletes the Black Jack nordic ski club 4 km outside of Rossland is the center of a multi venue nordic ski region including 30+ km's of competition ready trails at it's own facility, adjacent to the Hanna Creek Biathlon range and 30 km down the road from 40+ additional kilometers of groomed and track set trails at the Castlegar Nordic Ski Club the tight clumping of trails and facilities creates an ideal event and training venue.

Located at in the ideal training altitude range between 4,200 and 4,800 feet the regions compeition and training venues are well suited for high level training camps.

Having developed his skills as a member of the Black Jack ski club and still calling Rossland home local Olympic Medal hope George Gray has been a leader on the Canadian National Nordic Ski Team for years and in 2009 won his first medal on the world cup circuit in the team sprint event at the 2010 Olympic venus in the Callaghan Valley.

The large support network of skilled event volunteers regulalry show their dedication to the growth of the sport coming out in droves to pull off high level races annually including the Haywood Nor Am races in 2007 and 2009.

George Gray

George Grey grew up and still calls Rossland and the Black Jack Cross Country Ski Club home. He has become one of the best Nordic skiers this country has ever produced. Building on the strong performances generated on the World Cup circuit in 2006, along with his Olympic debut in Torino, Grey is a leader on the national men's squad. Capturing a World Cup bronze medal in the team sprint event in 2008, George was the first BC skier to ever win a world cup Nordic medal and has his sights set firmly on 2010.

Black Jack Cross Country Ski Club

Located at an altitude, of 1,160 meters (3,800 feet) above sea level, Black Jack's 30 plus kilometres of trails provide consistent and reliable snow cover from early December through late April. The high altitude provides ideal training opportunities.

4 km from downtown Rossland, Blackjack is only a ten minute drive north of the Canada/US Border, a 2.5 hour drive from Spokane International Airport (Washington State) and 3.5 hour drive from Kelowna International Airport. Black Jack is easily accessible from major airports from both Canada and the United States. The regional airport of Trail is a 20 minute drive, and Castlegar is a 30 minute drive.

Castlegar Nordic Ski Club

The Castlegar Nordic Ski Club has been providing well maintained cross country ski trails in the Rossland-Paulson Summit area for the last thirty years. Located 30km from the Blackjack Nordic Center the Castlegar Nordic Ski Club provides an additional 45km of trails to the areas groomed trail network creating a multi venue Nordic ski destination. 8.5 km’s of additional trails are left ungroomed and natural.
