Designated as “BC’s Best Sports Town” the hard working sports minded town of 7,200 features numerous world class sports facilities, deluxe accommodation options and shopping opportunities from big box stores to a pedestrian friendly downtown core.  The compact nature of Trail has all sporting facilities located near to hotels, dining and shopping. The City is home to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, the largest diagnostic and acute care hospital in the West Kootenay region. This sports savvy community revolves around local team play including the renowned Trail Smoke Eaters.

Aside from numerous NHL stars, Major League Baseball heroes, BC Sports Hall of Famers and Olympic medal winners that call Trail home, the city also boasts great coaches and first class facilities. Trail has staged a variety of international hockey events including the 2007 World Junior A Hockey Challenge and acted as a training site for many international hockey and curling teams.

As one BC newspaper said, “In Trail, sport is life.” Residents are immensely proud of their community, as evidenced by their strong volunteerism and many service clubs and organizations.

The level and dedication of the key volunteers and event organizers over the years has developed a large pool of very highly skilled individuals who can successfully organize or support any size of sporting event. In addition the local business community including Teck (Supplier of the 2010 Winter Olympic medals), has had a history of supporting sports event hosting opportunities in Trail
